...Know Your Faith

PROFESSION OF FAITH - Contd. from last week - Rev. Fr. Clement Quagraine

IN THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH

In the third part of the creed, we declare our belief in the Holy Spirit, who animated the Church. The Holy Spirit is described as the “Lord and Giver of Life.” God’s spirit is given to us at our baptism.

We say that we believe in “one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.” Our faith is that the Lord has founded a universal Church, built up on the foundation of the apostles (Ephesians 2:20), made up of believers from every part of the world. No one is excluded from the Lord’s invitation: The doors have been opened to all who answer the call of Jesus. Saint Paul proclaims, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28).

It is important that we mean what we say when we profess our faith. Any church that calls itself Catholic but closes the door to people who are not of the same ethnic group as the majority is not living up to it name.

There is no such animal as the Fante Catholic Church, Asante Catholic Church or Ewe Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is a universal Church recognizing that Christ has called all people to share in His sacrifice and banquet.
