Amalgamated

The Amalgamated Community groups together parishioners who reside outside the close vicinity of the SS Thomas More and John Fisher Catholic Church, namely:

Achimota, East West and Abofu areas;

  • Achimota Town and Akweteman areas;
  • Alogboshie; · Anumle area;
  • New Achimota and Kopevi areas;
  • Kissehman area; and
  • Christian Village area.

The formation of the Community was the brainchild of then Rev. Fr. Charles G. Palmer-Buckle who was priest-in-charge of the St. Thomas More Community. Amalga, as it is affectionately called, was formed in 1988 in response to the need to mobilize members who lived outside the above geographic areas but worshipped in the Achimota Church.

Over the period, the members of the Amalgamated Community have contributed in diverse ways to the spiritual and temporal growth of the church. The major activities of the community include:-

  • Quarterly Community Mass;
  • Spiritual Retreats;
  • Annual Get-together.

The Community has a charity fund, the Amalgamated Educational Fund, which supports, needy, brilliant and hardworking youth of the church community at the Senior High School level.

Sir Jacob Yierong was the first President of the Amalgamated Community.

The Amalgamated Community members number 120 and the Community Meetings take place every last Sunday of the Month and after the Second Mass.
