The formation of the community came into being when Rev. Fr. Charles Palmer-Buckle assumed the chaplaincy of Achimota Senior High School and a priest in-charge of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Achimota in 1977.
The community covers the following areas, namely, Abofu, Forestry Commission, Gimpa Quarters, Achimota East/West Campuses.
The first Chairman for the community was Mr. Kwesi Appo who has also represented the community on council for several years. Mr. J.K Aboagy and Mr. John Amuzu were also past presidents.
The reason of the community formation was to explain the Sunday readings to the members of the community who could not understand the English language into the local language , and to foster unity, enhance the spiritual, financial, social and moral well being of members in the community. Bible study on Fridays with mass are held on rotational bases in the evening.
Membership is open to all Catholic's living within the community who worship at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
All members pay monthly dues of 1.00GHC towards the welfare. However, in times of emergencies, members are levied a token towards the emergency.
Although the community has a number of Catholics in the Church, most have refused to register, but interestingly play active roles in other societies within the Church. We call on such parishioners to join the Community.
