Kissehman, Anumle

Kissehman Catholic Community started in Kissehman in 1954 by Mr. John Kodo who was then the Assistant Catechist to Mr. John Kwame in Anunmle. In 1953 when a quit order was given to non-workers and retired workers of Achimota school to move within three months from the workers quarters.

By then Mr. John Kwame of blessed memory was still working with Achimota School, but had his own completed house at Achimota, so he therefore decided to move to his house at Achimota. Fortunately Mr. John Kodo had also planned to relocate to Kissehman in 1954.

In 1954, he then told his Catechumen to come for catechism instruction in Kissehman. Before then some of the Catechumen had already moved to Kissehman with their presents.

Before long it became extremely incumbent upon Mr. John Kodo to give Catechumen from Anunmle and those within Kissehman Catechism instruction in Kissehman. The first batch of Catechumen who received their Sacrament are Miss Victoria Cofie, Miss Agnes Cofie, Miss Vincentia Tornyigah, Miss Josephine Tornyigah, Anthony Tornyigah and Vincent Tornyigah. The above Catechumen had their first Communion in Achimota school music room in 1955 by Rev. Fr. Morris Lessage.

In writing the history of Kissehman Catholic Community mention must be made of Mr. John Kwame of blessed memory and Mr. John Kodo who used much of their time and energy in seeing to the growth of the Catholic Community in Kissehman.

There were hosts of other people who helped greatly behind the scenes and without whom the Catholic Community in Kissehman would not have come into being. Some of them have already gone into eternity and is our hope that the good Lord grants them eternal rest.

The Lord has blessed Kissehman Catholic Community with two priests in the person of Rev. Fr. Mathias K. Amuzu and Rev. Fr. Augustine Sexornu Kodo. We continue to pray for more vocations from the Kissehman Catholic Community. Amen.

WAY FORWARD
