Ave Maria

In 1988 in the month of June, one Mr. Daniel Fiano of the University of Ghana, Legon had a concept of forming a unified Ewe society at St. Thomas More. Madam Mary A. Kwame and Mr. B.C. Mensah collaborated with him and they formed marian Devotees Society in August 1988. They had about thirty members and by the end of that month, it was inaugurated and Mr. Daniel Fiano became the president and the vice was Mr. B.C. Mensah.

It was named Ave Maria Ewe Catholic Guild. The patron of the guild is HOLY FAMILY.

  1. The purpose was to foster the spirit of Christian communal living among members.
  2. To encourage daily devotions to Jesus through Mother Mary for world peace
  3. To contribute materially and spiritually towards the sustenance of the Catholic Church and members.
  4. To deepen our knowledge of the Catholic faith/doctrine and to live and defend the Church.

THE MOTTO OF THE GUILD IS ''MARIA KOKOE'' Dogbeda de mia ta.

MEETINGS

The guild meets every second Sunday after first mass.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

The guild was able to form a choir at the end of 1988. After some time Mr. Andy Nukpe, the late Mr. Agbenu and the late Mr. Kisseh supported the youth of the guild in forming a marian youth choir and had choir robs sown for them.

The Ave Maria choir sings every second Sunday during the first mass and at times at St. John Fisher during second mass. The choir performs during funerals, weddings and other occasions provided they are invited. The choir is also a welfare outreach team which visits the sick, the needy, the aged and gives support in various ways.
