RALLYING AROUND THE RED, YELLOW, BLACK AND GREEN: Continued from last week - Miss Agnes Ama Afful

Sometimes I wonder, where are we heading as a country? What are the aspirations of the Ghanaian, how are we going there, and who is leading there? We seem lost to me. The lyrics of Osibisa’s “We are going, heaven knows where we are going” come to mind. It feels like that's the path we are on- only Heaven knows where we are going. You know I always wonder, who is holding who accountable? As a friend of mine pointed out, comparatively, the president of Ghana is more powerful in Ghana than the president of the USA in the USA. It appears that we have an autocratic president operating within democratic parameters. It seems that from parliament to the judiciary, to anti-corruption institutions of the state, everyone seems powerless against the president, encouraging impudent and despondent behaviour from presidential appointees. I have a lot to say about the economy and politics, but it's best to hold my tongue. Before writing, I intended to urge Ghanaians to unite and support the national flag. However, it seems that all they can see is the red colour, which symbolizes their suffering and difficulties. Therefore, I want to pose a question instead: is it possible for us to come together and rally behind our country's flag despite the challenges we face?
