In the first stanza of the song “trust and obey” John Sammis wrote “when we walk with the Lord, in the light of his word, what a glory he sheds on our way, while we do his good will, he abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey”.
This song sums up the readings of the day. The law of God was an expression of his loving concern and presence among his people. It was supposed to be an aid to holiness, not the essence and heart of religion. Hence ones observance of the law shows the intimate relationship with God. However, if the law is being interpreted to suite one’s ego, then Jesus condemns it, because it has become an obstacles to justice and decency to human relations.
