It was a hard message for the Jewish religious leaders to accept the claim of Jesus as the “bread from heaven”. They knew his background and childhood days. However, it must be understood that the notion and reality of God is best manifested in Jesus. God is life-giving. Jesus is living and life-giving bread.

In Jesus, God shares Himself, His infinite divine life to all who believe in Him. Jesus is that living bread came down from heaven to nourish us for the way to Horeb, the mountain of God. We should remember that our participation in the Eucharist provides us the medicine of immortality, the antidote for death, and the food that makes us live forever in Christ Jesus.
