At the moment of great uncertainty, the disciples turned to the one thing they knew could help them. In their darkness and blindness, they sought guidance the only way they knew how.
As scripture puts it: “they devoted themselves with one accord to prayer”. Their prayer would not be overnight. It would be nine days before Pentecost would fulfill what Christ had promised. But they didn’t give up.
That is the great legacy, and lesson, of this Sunday. It comes down to one word: pray. The disciples didn’t just practice prayer alone. They also did it in the community. They turned to others for help and support. So should we.
