Beloved, the first and second readings for this Sunday draw our attention to the need to forgive. Forgiveness is a created element of God for humanity, and He expects it to be a way of life for us. Mistakes are bound to happen in the life of man, and we may seek forgiveness either from God or from our fellow humans. Hence, if we see the need to ask forgiveness from God when we sin against him, we are obliged to forgive the offense of a friend, neighbour, husband, wife, or colleague without any iota of restraint. This is in reference to what Ben Sira says: "Forgive your neighbour the wrong he has done, and then your sins will be pardoned." Moreover, if the forgiveness of God has no limit, we also need to practice the same level of forgiveness, not bounded by time or duration, not following the path of Peter, who felt there should be a limit to it, as he tried to emphasize in Matthew's Gospel of today, "as many as seven times?
