Author: Rev. Fr. George Obeng Ampah

1st Reading: Gen 22:1-2,9-13,15-18

This episode, known as the "Binding of Isaac" shows how complete was Abraham's obedience to God. He was even ready to sacrifice his treasured son, if God demanded it of him.

2nd Reading: Rom 8:31-34

God the Father has shown his love for us by giving up his Son to death for our sake.

Gospel: Mk 9:2-10

Jesus is transfigured before the eyes of three of his apostles on Mount Tabor. This glimpse of his glory was meant to sustain their faith in him during his passion and death

Reflection

Abraham was tested to do the unthinkable; sacrifice his only son. He obliged and was ready to sacrifice Isaac to the Lord. What was going through his mind when he pulled the knife? Was he hoping to get a replacement from God or it was a case of blind trust?   The three disciples were led by their master to a high mountain. Were they hoping for something good on the mountain? Did they take it as an exercise to strengthen their muscles? Peter at his age would surely have objected to that exercise.  Both cases can be seen as a test of faith which paid off. Abraham was blessed for passing the test; and for Peter and the other two, they didn’t want to return. Your test is on the way. Don’t fail!
