Title: Listen to the Voice of God
Quote: 1 Sam 3:3-10,19; 1 Cor 6:13-15,17-20; Jn 1:35-42
Date: Sunday, 15th January, 2012
Author: Rev. Fr. George Obeng Appah

1st Reading: 1 Sam 3:3-10,19

The vocation of the boy Samuel to be a prophet is one of the great Old Testament stories. His response, 'Speak, Lord, your servant is listening' is an inspiration for all to follow.

2nd Reading: 1 Cor 6:13-15,17-20

Since our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, we will not abuse them in sinful ways, but do all for the glory of God.

Gospel: Jn 1:35-42

In John's account of the call of the first disciples, we have the Lord's quiet invitation to them, "Come and see." Like Andrew and Peter, that is how we too can encounter Jesus.

Reflection

There are many voices in our noisy world that draw our attention. The radios, TV, internet, face book and other media transmit so much information to us. But within all these, God still speaks clearly to us, calling us to a life-transforming experience of him. Samuel, as well as the two disciples of John needed to be guided in order to recognize God’s voice and have an experience of him. Having freely cooperated with God’s grace, they were able to witness to him. A true witnessing to an experience of Jesus is not by words alone but rather by a life free of immorality. Our world will be a better place when each of us lives as a true witness of the Lord. Am I committed to the life of a true follower and witness of Jesus
