Christ's promise to his Apostles at the Last Supper is made to us also, "I am going now to prepare a place for you, and after I have gone and prepared a place for you, I shall return to take you with me so that where I am you also may be." The longing for happiness hereafter is obviously a response to the virtue of hope implanted in us by God. No matter what happens we should continue to trust that with the grace of God we may persevere to the end, and so obtain the joy of heaven, which God will bestow on us as a reward for the good works accomplished under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who pleads for us with sighs too deep for words.
