St. Theresa of the Child Jesus

St Theresa of the Child Jesus Society is a dynamic group in the Catholic Church established to bring together mostly women to be actively involved in the church’s activities and also in charity work. The Society is a predominantly women’s group with few men whose services are indeed indispensable.

The main idea of the founding members, among other things, was to ensure that all hands were put on deck for the growth of the Mother Church.

The Society seeks to imitate the ideals of Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus, who lived a simple, humble, charitable and loving life. Members of the society seek personal sanctification and promotion of spiritual activities at all levels.

Somewhere, in 2003, some Executive Council members from the Archdiocese of Accra, joined a member, in the person of, Mrs. Agnes Abebrese to celebrate her birthday. After that celebration efforts were made to introduce the society of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus in St. Thomas More Catholic Church. The organisation was started, however, due to some challenges, the society was never inaugurated and eventually died out.

After more than a decade, the idea to form the society came up again and to the Glory of God, on 27 September, 2015, the society of St Theresa of the Child Jesus was  inaugurated in a colourful celebration at St John Fisher Catholic, Achimota.
