Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The Feast of the Ascension of the Lord reminds us that Jesus did not leave His disciples alone. Before He returned to heaven, He gave them a mission and a promise. In today’s Gospel, Jesus says, “Go and make disciples of all nations.” These words were not only for the apostles long ago. They are also for us today.
The disciples were gathered on the mountain in Galilee. Some worshipped Jesus, but some still doubted. This shows us something very human. Even people close to Jesus sometimes struggled with fear and uncertainty. Yet Jesus still trusted them and gave them responsibility. This teaches us that God can work through imperfect people like us.
The Ascension is not about Jesus going far away. It is about Jesus entering into His glory and remaining with us in a new way. At the end of the Gospel, Jesus says, “I am with you always, until the end of the age.” Even though we cannot see Him with our eyes, He is still present, in the Eucharist, in prayer, in the Word of God, and in one another.
The mission Jesus gave is simple: to share His love and truth with the world. We may not travel to distant countries, but we can live this mission in our homes, schools, workplaces, and communities. A kind word, forgiveness, helping someone in need, or standing for truth are ways we become witnesses of Christ.
The Ascension also gives us hope. Jesus has gone before us to prepare a place for us in heaven. Our life on earth is temporary. We are called to keep our hearts fixed on God while faithfully doing our duties each day.
Today, let us ask ourselves: Am I living as a witness of Christ? Do others see the love of Jesus through my actions? May the Ascended Lord strengthen our faith, guide our lives, and help us carry His message to the world with courage and joy.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You ascended into heaven but remain always with us. Help us to follow You faithfully and to share Your love with others. Give us courage to live as Your disciples each day. May our hearts always seek heaven while serving You on earth. Amen.
