Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Have you ever noticed how we make room for the things that matter most? If someone important is coming to your house, what do you do? You clean the house. You prepare a meal. Why? Because you want them to feel welcome. In the first reading, that’s exactly what the Shunammite woman does. She doesn’t just welcome the prophet Elisha for lunch. She says, “Let’s make a room for him.” She gives him a place in her home and in her life. And what happens? God blesses her in a way she never expected. She had no child, but through God’s grace, she receives the gift of a son.
Here’s the question for us today: If Jesus came to your house today… would He feel welcome? Not your physical house but your heart. Sometimes we say we believe in God, but our schedules, priorities, and choices tell a different story. We give Him leftovers instead of first place. Today’s readings invite us to do something different
1. Make Room For God Every Day.
We often ask God to bless our lives, but have we made space for Him? Prayer is not just talking to God when we have problems. It’s making room for Him every day, even for ten quiet minutes. The Shunammite woman built a room for Elisha. What room have you built for God?
Maybe it’s time to put the phone down for a while and open the Bible. Maybe it’s time to begin each morning with, “Lord, what do You want from me today?” God never forces His way into our lives. He waits to be invited.
2. Live Your Baptism Every Day.
In the second reading, St. Paul reminds us that through Baptism we died with Christ and now live a new life. Think about that. Baptism is our identity.
Here’s another question: If someone watched your life this week, would they know you belong to Christ? Not because you wear a cross. Not because you come to church. But because you forgive. Because you’re honest. Because you’re kind. Because you choose love when it’s difficult. Being baptized means every day we leave behind the “old me” and choose the “new me.”
3. Expect God to Do More Than You Imagine.
The Shunammite woman never asked for a son. She had stopped hoping. Yet God saw the deepest desire of her heart before she even spoke it. Sometimes we think our story is finished. “I’m too old.” Or “I’ve failed too many times.” But God is still writing the story.
When we make room for Him, He often gives us blessings we never expected – not always what we asked for, but always what we truly need.
Brothers and sisters, maybe the greatest miracle begins with one simple decision: To make room for Jesus again.
Not just on Sundays. Every day. Because when we make room for God, He makes room for grace, for peace, for hope, and for a life that is completely new.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, Thank You for making room for me in Your heart. Help me to make room for You in mine. Teach me to live the new life You gave me in Baptism. Open my heart to trust You, even when I cannot see what You are doing. May my life become a place where You are always welcome. Amen.
