Theme: Do Not Despise Small Beginnings

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to something almost disappointingly small: a mustard seed and a little bit of yeast. That is interesting, because most of us expect God to work in big ways. We look for dramatic signs, immediate answers, obvious change. But Jesus says the Kingdom often begins so quietly that you could miss it. A seed in the ground. Yeast hidden in flour. Something small, almost invisible and yet alive. Maybe the theme today is this: do not despise small beginnings.

Sometimes we become discouraged because we do not see much happening in our spiritual life. We pray, but we still struggle. We try to change, but the same weakness keeps coming back. We make one good decision and then fall again. And we think, “Is this even working?” But maybe God is doing more than we can see. A mustard seed does not look impressive when it is buried in the ground. Yeast does not look powerful when it disappears into the dough. But both are already changing what they have entered. Grace often works like that.

The same is true in our relationships, our families, our parishes, and even in ourselves. One small act of patience can change the atmosphere of a home. One sincere apology can begin to heal years of distance. One decision to pray for five minutes can slowly reshape a heart. One act of kindness that nobody notices can become the beginning of something much bigger. We often ask God for a miracle, and sometimes He gives us a seed. We ask Him to change everything, and He gives us one small faithful step.

The challenge is that we want results faster than God usually gives them. We want the tree, but God gives the seed. We want the finished loaf, but God gives the yeast. And that means faith is not only believing that God can do great things. Faith is trusting that He is already at work in the small things. The hidden things. The things that seem insignificant. Holiness is often not one heroic moment; it is a thousand small yeses that nobody else sees.

So maybe today the question is simple: what small thing is God asking of me right now? Not next year. Not when life becomes easier. Today. A prayer I have been avoiding. A person I need to forgive. A habit I need to begin. A word I need to say. A sin I need to leave behind. Do not underestimate the small beginning. In the hands of God, a seed can become a tree, and a little yeast can change the whole batch. The Kingdom grows quietly but it grows.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to trust You in the small things. When I do not see results, give me patience. When I feel discouraged, remind me that Your grace is still at work. Give me the courage to say yes to the small step You place before me today, and let that small yes become something beautiful in Your hands. Amen.
